Who we are
Lyon Group is an Australian-based independent partnership established in 2003 by founders David Green, Nicholas O’Day and Vanessa Sullivan.
We bring innovative solutions to the opportunities and challenges of a changing climate and economy. Lyon is the only company of its kind in Australia.
Lyon’s founders have arranged debt and equity financing for more than $10 billion worth of energy and infrastructure projects. They each have more than 20 years of renewables and energy market experience spanning Japan, other parts of Asia, Australia and Europe.
Lyon believes that innovative solutions can overcome and adapt to the challenges of a changing climate and economy.
We want to create innovative and commercially sustainable solutions that address the inefficiencies in markets that are contributing to climate change and to some people not getting the food, energy and water they need.
The world’s population is growing and modernising. The decarbonisation imperative, resource constraints and escalating pollution mean that people and their governments will increasingly demand that development is sustainable. Lyon has identified that the world needs new approaches to energy, water, food and emissions. Clean, smart infrastructure is central to sustainable development.
By finding new approaches to traditional sectors, Lyon is tackling global challenges that others think are too difficult, and capturing the commercial opportunity in sustainable development.
Lyon is a principal investor. Our team has extensive experience in originating commercial opportunities, developing assets and acquisition opportunities, executing transactions, raising capital (debt and equity) and in active management of developed and acquired assets.
Lyon’s team combines a strong understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks in the Australasian region with a broad network of relationships with industry participants, specialist advisors, investment bankers, financiers and regulators. This provides Lyon with a unique ability to source and execute off-market investment opportunities, manage investments and pursue its principal development of projects.
While we have focussed on the energy, water, agriculture and carbon sectors, we also have experience in other infrastructure-dominant sectors such as ports, transport and communications.
Lyon’s partners and clients have included infrastructure utilities, multinational energy and resource companies, major Asian based food conglomerates, Japanese trading companies, governments, alternatives asset managers, multilateral government agencies, and international banks.
Lyon has particular expertise in the structuring, establishment, placement and management of infrastructure funds, having been involved in over 10 listed or unlisted infrastructure funds since 2006. These funds were both broad based and industry specific, with the team having extensive experience in the energy, water, ports, transport and communications sectors.
The funds including the Asia Infrastructure Fund, a joint venture with The Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ, active management of a $2 billion European infrastructure portfolio, and a Shar’ah fund for the Asia Development Bank.
Lyon’s track record encompasses:
